The Toyo Bunko (Oriental Library) Documentation Center for Islamic Area Studies is responsible for systematically gathering and maintaining Islamic Area Studies source materials, and promoting their use in research. Our goal is pioneering achievements in the research of source materials, and in the area studies that utilize them. To augment our role as a historical documents center, we aim to systematize the bibliographical data for the collected source materials in a standard format, nurture research, and help foster the publication of research results.
Our applied research project "The Spread of Persian Bookkeeping in the Islamic World: Case Studies of Ottoman Accounting Registers" analyzes the accounting registers handed down in various Islamic regions, and systematically studies how the bookkeeping techniques established in Iran spread through the Islamic world. This project seeks to correctly ascertain the nature and content of accounting register archives, and provide a foundation for groundbreaking quantitative studies.
Our center reinforcement project "Database of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Literature in Japan" supports the expansion of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies in Japan by assessing research trends and making bibliographical information available.
